An accompanying exhibition showed many advanced products from the comprehensive Beckhoff portfolio, a.o. the new generation of ultra-compact Industrial PCs. These powerful devices are an excellent example of how PC-based control technology is able to combine PLC, motion control and IoT communication in just one platform and to support new applications such as big data, data mining, and condition or power monitoring. Because PC-based control is so open, flexible and equipped with interfaces to support all communication standards, it ensures the simplest possible implementation of future-oriented solutions for Industrie 4.0.
During the Beckhoff Symposium, an XTS demonstrator was proudly unveiled to show the results of a partner project on Industrie 4.0, which was implemented with the partner JKS Engineering. In the demo, an automatic material handling system consisting of an XTS conveyor system and a 6-axis articulated robot was used to process user input entered via a Windows tablet. Depending on which characters were selected by the users, the system picked and placed these characters with high speed and accuracy. All input data was relayed from the tablet to a local database and could be visualised again using other tablets.
The partner companies EPLAN, Iconix and WEG further complemented the event with a presentation of their individual solutions, which have been integrated with Beckhoff products.
